About · My story
Hi, I’m Kristen.

I’ve spent many years behind a camera, photographing thousands of people through all kinds of seasons: families, weddings, celebrations, milestones and everything in between. I’ve never really considered myself one particular kind of photographer. For me, it has always been about the person in front of my lens and capturing the moments they’ll someday be grateful were never forgotten.
I think that started with my grandmother.
Long before we all carried cameras around in our pockets, my grandmother always had hers nearby. She wasn’t a photographer by trade. She was simply someone who understood the importance of documenting life.
There was always another roll of film. Another picture to take. Another ordinary moment she thought was worth remembering.
At the time, I don’t think I understood what she was giving us. Today, I do.
Because decades later, those photographs are priceless. They’re pieces of our lives we can actually hold onto. And somewhere along the way, she instilled that same need in me to notice the details, to document the people I love, and to understand that today’s ordinary moments eventually become the ones we’d give anything to experience again.
That’s what I look for
The glance between two people when they think no one is watching. The way your child laughs right now. The way someone looks at the person they love. The relationship between a person and an animal who means the world to them. The little details that might not seem important today, but someday will be everything.
I don’t just want to show you what a moment looked like. I want my photographs to remind you what it felt like.
The name
The name Dear Dolly has its own story, too. Growing up, my grandmother called me “my Dolly.” I’ve carried that little term of endearment with me throughout my life. When it came time to name something that was completely my own, I couldn’t think of anything more fitting.
Because, in the end, that’s what photography is to me. Preserving the people, the love, and the moments we would give anything to hold onto just a little longer.
